In February 2024, as the Australian summer draws to a close, Melbourne- based photographer Charlie Hawks captured the essence of Short Sentence's summer capsule collection. His girlfriend, Cora, not only modeled for the shoot but also shared her role as Charlie’s partner in life. We invited this close-knit couple – partners in both life and creativity, and best friends – to to share a glimpse into their daily lives.
Describe yourself in a short sentence.
A dynamic duo who love spending time together, eating yummy food, dancing with our friends, and Charlie is obsessed with bikes and cameras (and Cora).
Is there any special sense of ritual in daily life?
Particularly in your relationship?
Cora: I am a sucker for a ritual. From an extensive morning routine to a nightly wind-down ritual — I love it all. We wake up early and start every morning together drinking hot water and apple cider vinegar and talking about what our day holds. It is a sacred time for us both — the rest of the world feels quiet and we can really pay attention to each other and start our days in a positive way.
Charlie: As Cora said, mornings and evenings are pretty ritualistic for us both. We love sharing time together in the kitchen making coffee and tea, and cooking dinner on weeknights is our special time together to be away from screens and listening to music working together to make something tasty to eat together.
Things in your life that inspire you?
Charlie: I draw inspiration from fellow photographers and artists I see while endlessly scrolling instagram. Instagram is poison but it is also essential to my life as a photographer, for better or worse. I am really inspired by dance music as well, I have been part of that community and culture for a long time and it is such a unique place for people from all backgrounds to express their taste in clothing, move their bodies, and stay up way too late.
Cora: Napier Quarter Guesthouse. It is stylish, comfortable, thoughtfully decorated and my dream home. It is in the perfect location of inner city Melbourne. Best part? There is a cafe and wine bar down stars serving up some of the best food and drink Melbourne has to offer.
Charlie: What she said! Napier Quarter is the best. Ideal location, best hospitality, incredible curation and design, and a warm welcoming atmosphere.
